The starting point
The company does residential remodeling and new construction across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Its WordPress site sat on an aged domain with a medium-sized base of service pages and blog posts, but our audit found the SEO wasn’t supporting the business.
The audit called for reworking the service pages, blog articles and images, and for links from niche-relevant sites so Google would pick up the updated content faster. Before we started, Ahrefs put the Domain Rating at 5.
What we did
- Research and track keywords We built a keyword sheet around kitchen and bathroom remodels, garage conversions, ADUs and home additions, and set up position tracking for 87 keywords.
- Work through the pages Page-level changes went into an on-page activity sheet so the client could see what changed and where. Schema was added and checked in Google’s Rich Results Test.
- Target buyer questions Content targeted remodel cost guides, garage-to-office conversions and ADU floor plans, the topics homeowners search before they call a contractor. Pages on those topics show up among the tracked ranking URLs.
- Build links Off-page work, logged in its own activity sheet, added links and listings to raise the site’s authority.
- Check speed and crawl health We ran mobile and desktop PageSpeed checks and an Ubersuggest site crawl, and compared Search Console periods inside the five-week window.

What changed
Between November 1 and December 8, 2023, Ahrefs Domain Rating rose from 5 to 11 and Ahrefs referring domains from 104 to 174. Semrush counted 140 ranking keywords, up from 123, and its referring domains went from 153 to 221. Moz Domain Authority edged from 16 to 17, and Semrush’s Authority Score stayed at 6.
In the position tracker’s comparison window, 15 of the 87 keywords moved up, 16 moved down and 56 didn’t change. That split is typical for a site in its first weeks of changes: Google re-crawls updated pages at different speeds, so some terms move before others.
What we’d point out
Five weeks is early, and these are third-party scores from Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz and Majestic. They react to new links much faster than rankings, calls or booked jobs do, so treat them as a sign the groundwork took hold.
Majestic Trust Flow fell from 10 to 6 while Citation Flow rose from 26 to 29. New links added volume faster than trust, and the plan for the next phase was more on-page work plus stronger, niche-relevant links to bring Trust Flow back up. More on our SEO service and home services work.
