Why WordPress is still the default for most businesses
WordPress development is building and customizing websites on WordPress, the open-source CMS that runs a large share of the web. We build custom themes, blocks and plugin setups so your team gets a site that looks exactly like the approved design and stays that way after a year of edits.
WordPress is the right choice when your staff will publish blog posts, update service pages and add team members without calling a developer. It has the biggest plugin ecosystem, plenty of hosting options, and almost every marketer has used it before. Yoast or Rank Math handle SEO fields, Gravity Forms or WPForms handle leads, and WooCommerce handles a store if you need one.
It’s the wrong choice when the site behaves like an application with logins and complex logic. That’s where Laravel fits better. And if raw speed and a separate content source matter more than editor familiarity, look at Next.js.
We’ve built on WordPress since 2018, and the pattern that works best for service businesses and professional firms is the same each time: a custom theme that matches the approved design, a short list of maintained plugins, and an editor setup that makes the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard.
What our WordPress work includes
Custom block themes
Custom WordPress theme development built for the block editor, with only the blocks your design needs and locked styles so pages stay on brand.
Custom blocks and patterns
Reusable sections such as service cards, pricing tables, FAQs with schema and testimonials, ready to drop into any page.
Custom post types and fields
Separate content types for services, locations, case studies or team members, using Advanced Custom Fields or native block fields.
Lean plugin stack
We keep plugins to the ones you need, choose maintained ones, and remove abandoned or overlapping plugins on existing sites.
Page builder cleanups
Moving sites off heavy Elementor or Divi setups to native blocks, which usually cuts page weight and editing headaches.
WooCommerce setups
Product catalogs, checkout tweaks and payment gateways for stores, built with our e-commerce development team.
How we build a WordPress site
- Plan the content model We list every page type and decide which need their own post type, fields or taxonomy before anything is designed.
- Design approval You review Figma mockups for key templates on mobile and desktop and sign off before development.
- Theme build We build a custom block theme, by hand or as a Claude-coded website reviewed line by line by our developers.
- Editor setup We set up roles, block locking and patterns so editors can add content without moving layouts.
- Testing and launch Speed, accessibility, form and browser tests on staging, then go-live with redirects, caching and backups configured.
WordPress basics we set up on every site
- Automatic daily backups stored off-server
- Security plugin, login limits and two-factor login for admins
- Page caching and image compression with WebP output
- SEO plugin configured with titles, sitemaps and schema
- Staging site for testing updates before they go live
- Admin roles that match what each person needs to edit
Questions we get about WordPress development
Do you use page builders like Elementor?
We prefer native blocks with a custom theme, because they load faster and are less likely to break during updates. If your team relies on Elementor and wants to keep it, we’ll work with it and keep the setup as light as we can.
Can you fix or extend our existing WordPress site?
Yes. We start with a free audit of themes, plugins, speed and security, then propose fixes or a rebuild. Sometimes a cleanup is enough, and sometimes a website redesign is the better investment.
Who hosts the site?
You choose. We often recommend managed WordPress hosts such as Kinsta, WP Engine, SiteGround or Cloudways, set up in your name. If you’d like us to move it from your current host, see website migration.
How do you keep WordPress secure?
Updated core, theme and plugins, minimal plugins, two-factor admin logins, a firewall and off-site backups. Our website maintenance care plans handle this on a schedule with a report every two weeks.
What does a WordPress site cost?
It depends on page count, custom features and content. Try the website cost calculator for an estimate, or ask for a free audit and fixed-price proposal.
