Shopify said on its changelog on October 26, 2026 that Knowledge base, the page where merchants control the facts AI shopping agents get about their store, is now built into the Shopify admin. It replaces the standalone Knowledge Base app, which Shopify says won’t be available after January 15, 2027.
What’s new
- Shopify Knowledge base now sits at Sales channels > Agentic > Knowledge base in the admin.
- It’s a single page where you review, edit and publish the store facts AI agents receive, such as contact details and gift services.
- Shopify drafts these facts from your published storefront pages, and each fact links back to the page it came from.
- Nothing Shopify drafts reaches AI agents until you publish it.
- Stores that used the app with fewer than 1,000 facts had their written or edited facts moved over and published for them. Stores with more than 1,000 facts weren’t migrated and need to add back the facts they want before January 15, 2027. Shopify says it emailed those stores directly.
Who it affects
Every Shopify store gets the new page, but the urgency differs. If you never installed the Knowledge Base app, nothing breaks, and the drafted facts stay unpublished until you act. If you ran the app with a large fact set, you now have a deadline.
The middle group is easy to miss. If you had a small fact set, Shopify already published your facts on your behalf, so AI agents are reading them today. That’s worth a quick check, since old details about shipping cutoffs or returns tend to linger.
Our take
We’d treat this as a short housekeeping job rather than a project. Open Knowledge base, read every drafted fact against your current shipping, returns and contact pages, and publish only what’s correct. If a draft is wrong, fix the storefront page it came from as well, because that page is what customers and search engines read too.
Stores that ran the app with more than 1,000 facts shouldn’t wait for mid-January. List the facts that actually answer customer questions, add those back now, and let the rest go.
