Shopify said in its changelog on October 27, 2026, that its Translate & Adapt app can now keep translations up to date on its own. Shopify auto translation now runs weekly for merchants in the United States and Canada, and the number of languages Shopify will translate for a store goes from 2 to 8.

What’s new

  • Weekly Auto-sync. Turn it on for any published language and Shopify translates new and edited content automatically each week. Before, every edit to a product description meant going back into the app to translate it again.
  • Eight languages. Shopify-made translations now cover up to 8 languages, up from 2. Using Auto-sync, the manual option or both for a language takes one of the 8 slots.
  • Manual work is safe. Translations you wrote yourself are never overwritten, according to Shopify.
  • A renamed button. Auto-translate is now called Translate now, for when you don’t want to wait for the weekly sync.

Auto-sync is off by default. You switch it on per language in Translate & Adapt with a toggle.

Who it affects

US and Canadian Shopify stores that sell in more than one language. Canadian stores serving French-speaking buyers in Quebec are the obvious group, along with US stores shipping to Mexico, Europe or other markets. Stores outside the US and Canada don’t get the update yet, based on Shopify’s wording.

Our take

This fixes a real problem. Translated product pages drift out of date the first time someone edits a price note or a sizing chart, and buyers in the second language end up reading old information. We’d turn on Auto-sync for your main second language, then spend 20 minutes checking that week’s output on your top 10 products, especially sizing, shipping and returns copy. Keep human-written translations for legal pages and anything regulated, since Shopify won’t overwrite those anyway. If your store also feeds AI shopping agents, our note on Shopify’s knowledge base moving into the admin covers the other half of keeping store facts current.
